Weirdest Bead Contest
As some of you may know, one of my workshops is titled ‘Freestyle Focal Fun’. The class is not about any specific color reactions or anything like that, so I always try to encourage my students to try out my techniques with their own favorite colors. You know, freestyle! Fun!
For some reason, this does not always work – it’s as if some people feel like they’d be failing the class unless they make the exact same bead I just made. I desperately needed to put an end to that. So, after I had demonstrated some wig-wag techniques and ended up with a very weird looking bead, I decided to challenge my dear freestylers: “Your next task is to make the weirdest bead you can come up with. Whoever makes the weirdest bead, gets to keep one of mine!”
It worked! Turns out, I am NOT the only beadmaker who’s viciously competitive. Everyone was excited to grab a stack of colors and do their own thing. The results were utterly fantastico, and I feel like I really accomplished something that day. Hey, a little bribery never killed anyone.
The winners, in case you were wondering, were Marianne (the orange one in the center, with the blue dots) and Avril (the small one to its left).
